Challenge:
The Soloway Jewish Community Centre in Ottawa hosts a variety of fundraisers and gala events, including an annual golf tournament and the popular Ottawa Celebrity Sports Dinner. Looking for a new Manager of Events of Fundraising to handle the workload associated with these events, the Soloway JCC turned to Marketing Breakthroughs to handle the entire Ottawa recruitment and hiring process on their behalf.
Solution:
We first provided the JCC with a copy of our online recruitment process, which details the MB way for seeking out the most qualified job candidates possible. We then launched the first phase of our recruiting process, which included:
The MB team sorted the applicants into three categories, with the most desirable group receiving a preliminary interview with MB CEO Steve Klein. The strongest candidates from this session were invited back for a more thorough second interview.
From these two interviews, the MB team narrowed the field down to its top three candidates. To help the Soloway JCC make the right choice, Marketing Breakthroughs went the extra mile in vetting the skills and capabilities of the candidates.
First, we conducted in-depth reference checks on the top three candidates, compiling our findings into a Reference Report for the JCC's review. Second, we asked the top candidates to complete a comprehensive audition piece, detailing their previous event planning experience, displaying their expertise in applicable software, and showcasing their creativity and event management skills. Third, we brought the final three candidates in for a final interview, this time with JCC management.
Results:
After the third and final recruitment interviews were complete, MB had more than enough information to guide the Soloway JCC into hiring the right candidate for the job.
Working closely with the new Manager of Events of Fundraising, Marketing Breakthroughs was able to make the 2008 Ottawa Celebrity Sports Dinner a roaring success, bringing in more than $250,000 for several charitable causes.
