Office Rebranding and Theme Decorating - Family Dental Centre
|
Challenge: Studies show that 75% of all people experience some degree of anxiety over a visit to the dentist, and as many as 21% suffer from a fear so strong they would rather lose their teeth than walk through a dentist's door.
In 1998, when Marketing Breakthroughs was located in Belleville, the dentists at the Family Dental Centre in Frankford, Ont. (a small town of 1,100 people, 20 minutes north of Trenton) were looking for a way to attract more patients to their practice.
Solution: To achieve this goal, Marketing Breakthroughs recommended that FDC reposition their practice and offer a completely new dental experience -- one that was fun and relaxing for patients of all ages.
Working closely with the three dentists who owned the practice, MB completely transformed the look and feel of the entire practice, creating a "dental spa" where patients could relax and be at ease while they visited the dentist at FDC -- a cutting-edge marketing initiative when it was introduced nearly 10 years ago.
Using a new slogan: "Dental care that's relaxing and fun!", we redecorated each of the practice's treatment rooms, giving them their own separate theme -- a sports room, a Hollywood room, a kite room, a harbour room, etc.
The practice was then equipped with several other relaxing and fun activities. An assortment of scented potpourri and candles were placed throughout the practice, and patients would offered neck messages before their treatment and the use of hot towels and heated pillows during their visits.
Patients could also browse through the practice's extensive video and music libraries, listen to a CD of their choice or watch a short movie or TV show during their appointment, as TVs and stereos were also installed in all the treatment rooms.
In addition, the practice installed an Internet cafe and even built a "bird sanctuary" in the main entrance, featuring a hanging lattice of plants and realistic model birds. Marketing Breakthroughs even designed am indoor "tree fort" for the kids in a previously-unused alcove in the office, which was decorated with tree branches, special mood lighting and filled with an assortment of cool toys for the younger patients.
We also developed a series of training sessions with the Family Dental Centre staff, helping them to improve the quality of treatment and better understand dental phobia and how to react to a patient's concerns.
Finally, we produced a series of radio ads promoting the new dental experience at FDC as well as a new colourful and patient friendly corporate brochure for this client.

Results: As our radio ads stated, this was a "totally new type of dental experience." The Family Dental Centre benefited greatly from this new experience, attracting dozens of new patients and earning thousands of dollars in new business.
At the time, this theme decorating initiative was considered groundbreaking and unlike anything done in any other dental office in the province. Since this work was completed in 1998, this approach has since been implemented by several leading dental practices across the country -- Marketing Breakthroughs is very proud to have been a leader in this area.
